Treasure finds

This is the kimono that I wore for my shichigosan as a 3 year old. If I take out the seams, it will fit Leia perfectly this year for her shichigosan in November!

There is one other kimono that Marie wore on her shichigosan as a 7 year old, but it is stained quite badly (this one has some stains, too). I will try to see if the cleaners can take out the stains.

Since Hiro's mom already found a similar kimono from an antique market for Leia before we knew we had this one, we will give this one to Irene or Naomi for next year, okay?

It's unfortunate that these weren't uncovered before Maile was 7. There is only one set of underclothes and obi and hair ornaments/obi ornaments/tabi/geta, so we'll have to find a way to get those for Naomi and Irene, but wouldn't it be nice if they could do shichigosan together?

Here is a photo of fragments that were unearthed at the site where Hiro's about to construct a 3 story house for a client in Kanagawa Prefecture. The site is at the top of a hill with a grand view of Mt. Fuji. I had a suspicion something would be uncovered, since the site is so majestically located!! Thought you'd all enjoy the photo. It's Jomon period pottery! They're going to construct anyway! Isn't that crazy?! Maybe I'll take Leia out there for the ground breaking so that we can discover our own fragments :)

Norie- what a darling Leia is in the kimono! That is very interesting about the Jomon pottery. I'm curious to know whether any archeologists have been notified of the find?

When Jiyu put in new buildings, they had to do a certain period of digging. In addition to the shards, there were whole pieces of pottery which they have now on display at the school. I remember also in Tokugawa village when they built the dormitory across from house #21 they had to do a dig. Maybe it depends on how deep the new foundation will be, but I thought those digs were required in former Jomon sites.

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
