End of Summer, Boston: Hi Guys! We are enjoying the end of summer here and hope everyone is well. After many wet weekends, we finally got away to Maine to continue our list of the 100 highest N.E. mountains. We hiked late on Saturday due to a late evening Friday (!), but on Sunday pulled about 15-16 miles. It was fun and the mountains were gorgeous. For some reason, I cannot attach even a single photo today even when making the file size small, so will not post, but we saw plenty of moose tracks, bear scat, and mountains turning orange. Our garden has been great fun this year. Tim grew heirloom tomatoes that looked unreal- as big as your outstretched hand! We grew Chinese long beans that are weird looking and delicious, white and purple long eggplant, squash, broccoli, pole beans, kale, basil, peppers, onions, bok choy, salad greens and celery. We now have about 38 roses in our garden, and I am meeting my friend and master rosarian David Cannistraro today to maybe get more. He has too...
Portland Race for the Cure Dear family, (Someone else better make a post soon or the name of this blog is going to have to change to "Julie's blog" ha ha.) On Sunday September 17 I'm running in the Portland Race for the Cure, a 5K event to raise money to fight breast cancer. If anyone is interested in sponsoring me, even for $2 to $5, I would be really grateful. You can visit my link on the website to donate, or mail in a donation or call with your credit card number. I am inspired by Marie and Tim who raised so much money running in the Boston Marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have already reached the very modest goal I set for myself, which feels great, but it would mean a lot to me to have the support of my family. Thanks! http://race.komenoregon.org/site/TR?px=1271208&pg=personal&fr_id=1020&s_tafId=4161 http://www.komenoregon.org/Donate/Make_a_Donation.shtml
First soccer game Hi all, Today was Paul's first soccer game. We signed him up for our neighborhood team in the Portland Youth Soccer league. His team is Alameda "Thunder," and check out their snazzy uniforms! I wasn't at practice last night, but I know Paul was pretty excited about the new uniforms that were handed out! Today was the first game. They play 3 on 3, on a half-field, 2 twenty-minute halves, two games going at once. They don't keep score for this age group, and there is no goalie. It was super fun and here are a few photos of Paul and his team today. His team is all first grade boys, but we noticed some of the teams were mixed girls and boys. Not sure why, but I wouldn't have minded having him on a co-ed team. We had lots more fun today too -- a soapbox derby event right after soccer, riding bikes in the park after lunch, and tonight a picnic dinner to see the thousands of Vaux's sifts swirling into the annual roost site where they gat...
Summer is over! Hi all. Don't fall over dead from the shock. I am finally posting a few photos from August. I know I am still missing some photos I should have posted from our trip to Ohio to see Grandpa, but I will go through and choose some of those soon too. School starts on Wednesday, and so we will be hitting the ground running from then on. We have a new computer and I am still figuring things out -- it's a Mac! I think I know how to get to the photos now, even though I still don't know how to upload them from the camera yet. 4th of July visit to Mt St Helens. And aren't the wild flowers pretty too? Paul's baseball game birthday party - Six years old! We had malfunctioning cameras all over the place, so no photos of the baseball game, but we did get the birthday boy's smiling face. ...And August 5 Saturday, right after the baseball party, here we are at the Oregon Buddhist Temple "Obon Fest '06." I don't know why the 4th photo won...
