This is how to spend a rainy day with my favorite puddle duck
Toad lily Lantana, Beautyberry, and ground cover in bloom. The garden elf checks out the Nerima garden.
I am wearing my cozy hat and socks and ready to listen to my Taiko CD. Thanks Julie!!
Kimie and Peter's new address: Dear all : Hope everyone's well. Julie has advised that Kimie, Peter and Irene have moved to their new home in SE Portland. I've updated the address on the 'Contacts and Birthdays' page and here is the address for all of you: Kimie, Peter and Irene 323 SE 29th Ave. Portland, OR 97214 Cheers, Marie
Here is the quilt for Naomi, all done. My Jiyu students (all girls) pronounced it "girly" enough. Certainly with #100 batting it will be plenty snuggly. I hope the next picture to appear will be baby on quilt!
DC Fukuda's on TV. Well, it's been nearly a year since we announced that we were going to feature our home and family on HGTV's "Get it Sold" program. Once upon a time I thought this would be a great idea and help us in Marketing the sale of our home. I planned on letting everyone know when the episode would air, but... having gone through the process and come out the other side, I can't really say that I'm excited to share this news. Having said that... being family and all... I thought you would want to see it anyway. I don't have a DVD recorder, but I may save it on my DVR until I can get one. I have a VCR, but I doubt anyone's using it anymore, so for those of you who can't get this programming, i'll figure out a way to share it with you. For those of you who can and care to watch, the details are here: http://www.hgtv.com/get-it-sold/listing-and-a-luau/index.html We're only sharing this with our family and closest friends......
Lucciano has begun to sing again after molting over the summer months. It has been several months and we missed his cheery song. Now I have a theory as to why Nikko does not sing. She is too busy molting... shedding...all year long! I honestly don't see how one dog can shed THAT MUCH!!! Mom
If Leia looks a little worried in the first photo it is because Jiji was teasing her with the hose and she didn't think it was funny. Here is a bit of dinnertime fun. Do you kids remember sitting in this chair?
Hey from the Matsushima-Fukudas, Just some quick news: Leia has a fun sense of humor! Ever since she could speak, she's been able to say "meh" for "eye", while pointing to one of her eyes or to a doll's eye, etc. and for a few months now, she's been able to identify "happa" while pointing to all the leaves in the trees, picking them up/chasing them on the ground, pointing to the herbs in the tea strainer. (Sometimes she'll point to a tree and say "happa, happa, happa" to try to capture the full image.) Well, today, she pointed to my eye and said "happa" and giggled furiously. She thought it was totally hilarious to point to my eye and say "happa", when she knew fully well that it was an eye. She did this over and over and would break out in laughter. It was very charming. I just had to share that with you all to show that Leia shares her mama's silly sense of humor. :) Also, Hiro put up a few more recent ...

Bye bye DC Nursery

This one's a quick post. We dissasembled Maile's crib and Kaiea's bed today... in their place we assembled a steel frame bunk bed. We're all a little bitter sweet about it, but the kids are really excited. Maile's been going around all day, as I assembled the bed saying "I'm a Biiiiiiig Girl!!" in her loudest Maile voice. Kai's been learning a new level of bed safety and responsibility... I'm sure there'll be some adjustment. I don't think Ken and I ever properly respected the discipline bunk beds required. Well, I'm bushed. It was a long day at Ikea and taking apart, putting together and rearranging furniture. I'm sure there'll be more to post on this topic in the year ahead. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Jon p.s. Kimie or Julie... either of you want our crib? it's strudy as a rock. It'd cost a mint to ship, but it'll be cheaper than buying a brand new one. Just a thought.
DC Fukuda's in Hawaii Hey All, it's been a while since I posted anything... I've been busy w/ work and excuse, excuse excuse.... etc. I do tend to do a lot of micro-blogging on my facebook profile. So, I guess I save up less to share w/ everyone here. (Sorry). Anyways... I found out how to share my Facebook Photo album to the larger public who aren't sucked into the spiraling vortex of the social-web-lifestreaming. FB provides a link for every photo & album to share publicly... it's yet another way to entice outsiders to sign up. If you're not interested, you're welcome to ignore the "Sign Up" button... they won't ask you for any personal information. Here are the pics from our recent trip to Hawaii. Some accomplishments to share: Kai & Maile are fearless in the ocean... Kai swims freely in water deeper than he can touch with a mask and snorkel, Maile just rushes towards the sea... we still need to keep our eyes on her, not a s...
Boston Summer Visits: We were lucky enough to have Kimie, Peter, and Irene stop through on their way to New York: They flew in on a Friday afternoon, and we got them situated into their hotel, then enjoyed walking around to our gardens, and back to the house for dinner together. We had salmon, rice, and miso along with some garden veggies. The next morning, we had a relaxed breakfast together before taking them back to check out and be picked up by John. Two days afterwards, mom flew in from D.C.. We had a very busy first day, during which mom visited the RMV for a Mass ID and then bopped all over town, including the public library, the gardens, and downtown. Mom and I visited Bert at Flippin'. It was a nice little reunion and we enjoyed a free lunch!: Tim took off a day and a half from work. We picked the nicer of the days (lucky us!) to travel to Cape Cod. We stopped at a quilt shop to take a peek around, then did some sightseeing, including looking at the marshes, visiting the W...
Hello all and Happy Birthday to the August b-day boys! We updated Leia's album - a few new photos of her in her new yukatas made by Hiro's mom! (Otherwise, she prefers to go around in the nude all day...) Please click on the link to Leia's album to see the latest (there are a few). Hope everyone's having a great summer! Love, Norie, Hiro and Leia
Sidebar New Item: Hi All- I added Kimie's photo album of Irene to the sidebar. You can visit it any time! Additional thanks to Ken for sending his Picasa album of his visit with Kimie, Peter and Irene! Ken, let me know if you want a link posted on the blog. -M
Striped bass dinner!: Here is the first striped bass that Tim has brought home from fishing- caught in his Hobie kayak- about 40" long : Tim talking to his dad who bought him the Hobie, about the adventure as we cook a LATE supper of brown rice, shioyaki bass and steamed broccoli: We have a freezer full of fish! Yum! My roses are finally in bloom! You can view the album here . Hope you are all well. -M
here's a few more...mixed with some from several months back. all dolled up in front of our blossoming ume tree playing peek-a-boo ...at the bus stop ....and a few on mother's day one serious onion peeling shot (this one reminds me of baby photos of julie...) and an overhead shot of the scene of the crime... and one of her after a mulberry/cherry picking outing around our house. I wanted to get some good shots of her out in the mud while i was helping transplant rice in the paddies on sunday, but she wasn't ready for the mud yet...she was more into picking/devouring strawberries from the nearby patch of tasty ripe berries. hope to get some good ones at harvest time...
