Hydrangea Festival in Nerima!

Norie and Leia visit Nerima during the Hydrangea Matsuri

(I'm not succeeding at putting the photos in the locations I wanted them to go in, but anyway!!) - Before Mom gets too busy, I decided to take Leia out of yochien for a few days to go visit Mom and Papa.
On the first day, we baked delicious peanut butter oatmeal cookies and celebrated an early Father's Day at the local pizzeria deli, courtesy of you all! Thanks! (Sorry we didn't get any photos of that, but maybe Papa can let you know how he enjoyed that treat.)
The second day, I got up early (!! 6:30am y'all! Whoo hoo!) to bake a scrumptious yoghurt coffee cake - recipe courtesy of Marie - and we had a lovely breakfast before going out to Toshimaen Park (which is on the verge of being closed down!) to see the hydrangeas during the ajisai matsuri. It was super cool outside and perfect for a stroll. We all had fun admiring the variety and Leia especially had fun posing with her favorites - as you can see we did a lot of posing and photographing!

When we got home, Jiji made a yummy chilled pasta dish with fried fish and salad and then took a very brief nap on the luxurious massage chair with Leia at his side.

Wish you all were here to celebrate the start of summer with us! Happy summer, everyone!!!

xoxoNorie

Awesome! Don't think I've seen so many hydrangeas in one place. I divided mine up this spring and spread it out into a hedge... I'll post up a pic when I get around to it. Thanks for posting!

Do post more than one pic, Jon! In addition to your hydrangeas, we haven't seen any photos of Kaiea in a while, so post a lot!! :)

I love the photos of Maile baking, btw!!

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
