Trip to Ohio I: Okay, this is very late, and since I didn't go back and resize the photo files, I will have to make this two part. Here is part I:

Well! Just returned a few days ago from a lovely trip to Ohio with Kimie, Julie and the boys. As many of you know, Kimie had pneumonia, but still braved the trip with a slight delay, leaving 24 hours after Julie and the boys.

We arrived on Wednesday, with a bit of a delay on Julie's flight- the initial delay in Portland had caused them to miss their 2nd flight in MN, so they caught a later flight. It worked out fine. I met Julie and the boys, picked up the rental car, and Julie drove to the Marriott Residence Inn where we stayed last year. We called Grandpa to let him know we were there and that we would be dropping in the next day.

The next morning, we left around 10:00 a.m. (7 a.m. Portland time!) to drop in on Grandpa's apartment. He showed us around the rose gardens and his container gardens, all of which looked stunning:

If my memory is right, we decided to go to Holden Arboretum that day, along with Penitentiary Glen. It was a hot day, but we walked through the plantings and looked at a very interesting photo exhibit.
Then back home, and Julie got ready to pick up Kimie at the airport, while Paul and Ben changed into swimming trunks. We splashed about in the pool then went home to change and order dinner. Next thing we knew, everyone was back and we had a nice reunion.

The next day, we decided to visit the Botanical Gardens. It was another hot, humid day, but the boys remembered the Children's Park, complete with water play, organized nature crafts, and a maze. Paul painted a rock to give to Grandpa, who told him that he would put it in his cabinet with his special things.
More to come....

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
