Team Boston Update: Here is Tim with his new hat and his right thumb in a cast. The hat was hand knit by Julie, and is just beautiful. Tim really likes it! The cast is courtesy of Beth Israel Hospital, and put there last week after Tim finally had his ski injury looked at. Current evaluation is negative on a bone avulsion, but they are still not sure whether it will require surgery or not.

Regardless of the cast, we both ran 15.9 miles last weekend for our training run, and are scheduled to run 17 this coming weekend. So far, so good, but every day is different. We hope to stay on schedule with the training and our pacing, and Jacques and Ruth will provide a big boost by coming to our Team session this weekend and talking. For those of you who haven't looked, I am keeping a training blog at http://runforcancer.blogspot.com/ .

I recall Norie's comments on signs of spring and post our weekend photo of the day here. Spring is just a few weeks away...:

Marie and Tim! Good work on your weekend run! But Tim, what did you do skiiing to earn that cast? Keep us posted on all your news. While you guys are covered in snow, we had the most beautiful day yesterday, mild and sunny for the scheduled Portland annual "Worst Day of the Year" bike ride event. (We didn't participate.) Our crocuses and day lilies are popping up...

I did a most glorious cartwheel right in front of the lift line. Skis, poles and gear strewn fifty feet down the hillside. Classic case of playing around while going way too fast. Hopeful the cast will be off shortly and I will be on to a brace and fishing!!
Thanks very much for the hat. Just the right colors for my taste.
It also arrived just in time for our little blizzard so it has already been put to use. We have a grand crop of snow and ice! I hope to see crocuses around April Fool's Day. Best Tim

The hat looks great!

After a tumble like that, I'm glad it was only your hand (finger? wrist?) that was hurt!

I must say, I really don't know how you guys can run around in that weather...you both must either be insane or just incredibly determined!

Gambare, Tim! Gambare, Marie!

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
