Christmas in Nerima

The head greeter, calmed with some cheese in a kong,  Was ready to receive the guests.

Norie and I had been sliding around each other, getting assorted foods ready for the table.
I think this was the first ear in history that everything was ready to eat as the guests arrived.

First to come was Obachan, followed closely by Kiyoe-chan, Leia, then Hiro and Wally.

Nikko was happy to see the whole crew move to the table.

The turkey was very well done and falling apart, nesting on a bed of green.

I had made the stuffing the night before and though the outer edges were a bit toasted, when scooped into a serving bowl. it was up to the usual standard.

Wally was a good sport to give the turkey the first cut.

Hie wife did not eat turkey so this was a new experience.

The ironing board on the top of the kennel served as an extr table ... as seven people and all the dishes take up every bit of space at the real table.

Look how full that table is!

Note the pumpkin pie and the pican pie on the sideboard.

Kanazawa-san came later for dessert.

Picture taken by Leia.

... and another picture taken by Norie.

Maybe she could have worked it so her reflection would be in the mirror.

Anyway, it was a great party.

Kanazawa-san brought her hymnal and we sang "Silent Night" in harmony. I had not known she was also a singer.

She offered a prayer for Papa and Obachan wrote a tanka for him.

Leia dug right into a book that was a gift from Obachan.

By morning, all the selection of stories had been consumed.

Nikko and I walked Wally back to Toshimaen station

and Hiro and Kiyoe-chan  went with Obachan.

After some washing up, I had to hit the sack because of my 4:am onigi-delivery.

Nikko, finished with her duties, didn't even wait for the lights to go off.

Half the lights on our tree string have died. I had tried to get a new string last year but the minute Christmas eve is over, all the shops switch out to New Year's stuff.

I wonder if there are any cheap strings for sale in the states.
The tree looks a bit lonely with only half the lights twinkling

Too bad you are all so far way ... there is a bit of pie left and the yummy turkey ... and  a nibble of Christmas cookies...

With warmest blessings for the holiday,
Mom

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
