Hi Family Members,

This is Papa writing to the Fukuda Family members using Mom's Blog ID and Password.

The photo on the left was taken last night, Sunday, 9/21/08 (JST), to commemorate Nikko's completion of an eight-lesson manners training, the gift from all of you. You see a well-behaving Nikko properly sitting by Mom, who is very, very happy with the result, as shown in her broad smile, and the trainer Suzuki-san, also pleased with her efforts having come to fruition.

The gift you gave to us was originally a ten-lesson course, but Suzuki-san said that, in her pre-course observation visit, she would skip the first two lessons since the master-dog relationship, which is the foundation for dog's good behaviors that is often absent in many dog-owning families, had solidly been established between Mom and Nikko, though not so much evident with Papa! She gave a proportionate deduction in fees (I hope you people paid accordingly).

The course lasted for four months because visits were initially on a weekly basis, but as we went to advanced training, such as building up the "Wait" command effects from a short "stepping-out-of-the-door-and-coming-back-immediately" assurance-giving stage to a full day practice, we needed a three-week test-and-train period.

Suzuki-san is a gifted trainer, knowing dogs common psychology and understanding Nikko's personality very quickly, and even trained Papa how to be Nikko's master and playmate depending on circumstances.

Mom and Papa thank you all for the wonderful Mother's Day Gift 2008. Now we can be away from home for a reasonably long time, without much concerns about Mom's precious books, one-thousand-yen bank notes, etc. consumed by the cohabiting canine member of the family. Now the challenge is how to nurture the master-dog relationship between gentle Leia and Nikko, who loves her dearly but in rather typically canine manners.

Thankfully in love, joined by Mom,

Papa

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
