organic nursing pillow from marie, gown and bonnet from mom and papa, stuffed teething bear from mari (kimie's ASIJ NK buddy who i visited the other day), and handmade baby carrier "sling" from my friend yuko. I feel prepared already!! :)

thanks, sisters :) i feel very good - getting lots of rest and walking everyday. hiro thinks i'd make a great sumo wrestler. :)

yup - eight more weeks til the big day! am hoping the ground stops getting frost soon so i can get out in the garden and sow some seeds before the time comes...

i also have one last translation job to wrap up...we'll see if i can get that done before the big day!

WOW 8 weeks! Things are going to happen fast. Just a quick piece of advice.... if there's anything you want to do either just for yourself, or with just you and Hiro... even if it's going to the theater)... do it now. After the baby comes you're time for yourselves will be hard to come by. (Not that it's a bad thing), but I just thought you should be warned... I never was ;-)

Also.. start preparing to slow down in the 7 week window, things start getting uncomfortable... so I've been told.

We're all so excited over here! Can't wait to meet our nephew or niece!

Maria and I are still putting our package together. It should be finalized this weekend, so we'll pack it up and take it to the post sometime over the weekend.

Love,

-Jon

thanks for the advice, jon! (actually, marie recently sent me the same advice via her sister-in-law, deborah! :) ) we were thinking about a short trip to the countryside and maybe a visit to see kazumi (kimies's friend in organic farm country), but only if hiro's work schedule will allow it... :(

but actually, we've had 12 years of "doing stuff alone together" so it's about time we had some distraction, wouldn't you say? :)

there's a shojin-ryori-ya (buddhist-based veg. food restaurant) that we're hoping to go to in tokyo with some friends, but we'll see...we saw Sweeny Todd in the theater the other day...light years away for something we'd want our future child to see, so good thing we saw it now!! :)

i have a small translation project coming up that's sure to get in the way of this last bit of freedom, but i'm really hoping to have enough time to finish papering our bedroom walls with washi, sowing seeds in the garden, filling the kunugi logs with shiitake spores and maybe dyeing a few baby kimono with onion skins i've been saving up for the purpose...!! yikes!

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
