I visited Dr. Takigawa, the dentist, today at Nihon Daigaku to put the silver cap back on my tooth today (it had come off New Year's day while eating at Hiro's parents' house). He is such an incredible pro - always using safe, non-toxic materials for me...he has to educate the staff almost each time I visit, since he uses materials that aren't used much these days!)

He gave some excellent advice for infant toothcare - advised me to use gauze wrapped on the finger to wipe out the baby's mouth even before they start to get teeth so that they get used to the ritual of cleaning out the mouth and to toughen up their gums. He said that it's best to focus on toothcare as early as possible. Then he advised that as they get older, make sure the child sees Mama and Papa brushing and flossing their teeth everyday so that like everything else in life, the child will learn from watching and will want to imitate. :) Good advice, right? :)

He asked about everyone and was glad to hear that everyone's doing so well!

Great Norie! Glad to hear you are still seeing Dr. Takigawa. I think his advice sounds good- you can check in with Julie about tooth care as she's excellent at brushing and flossing the kids nightly and might have some good tips along the road. As may Jon.-M

i actually wouldn't have even thought to ask for advice on toothcare at this early point in time, but when I said "kodomo mo yoroshiku" to him, he said in his "mad" sensei-like tone: "dame yo!" and then went on to tell me how my child won't need him as long as hiro and i are attentive and raise the child with good habits! :)
i love admiring paul, ben and kai's bright, white teeth so you can be sure we'll be seeking family secrets as soon as the time comes! :)

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
