End of Summer, Boston: Hi Guys! We are enjoying the end of summer here and hope everyone is well. After many wet weekends, we finally got away to Maine to continue our list of the 100 highest N.E. mountains. We hiked late on Saturday due to a late evening Friday (!), but on Sunday pulled about 15-16 miles. It was fun and the mountains were gorgeous. For some reason, I cannot attach even a single photo today even when making the file size small, so will not post, but we saw plenty of moose tracks, bear scat, and mountains turning orange.
Our garden has been great fun this year. Tim grew heirloom tomatoes that looked unreal- as big as your outstretched hand! We grew Chinese long beans that are weird looking and delicious, white and purple long eggplant, squash, broccoli, pole beans, kale, basil, peppers, onions, bok choy, salad greens and celery. We now have about 38 roses in our garden, and I am meeting my friend and master rosarian David Cannistraro today to maybe get more. He has too many and can't fit them in HIS garden!
What else? Tim's parents are arriving here in a little over a week, and we will drive together to Canada for a short weekend trip. They will stay for Tim's birthday on October 3rd. On October 7th, we will go to NYC to see GOMEZ, who have extended their tour in the U.S. to celebrate 10 wonderful years of making music. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome!
Our friend Tomo is here from Japan and stayed with us last night. She is staying at Bert's apartment for a week while she works in her garden. It is nice to not have to worry about it for awhile!
Tim and I have both received applications for Boston 2007 with the LLS. We are thinking about whether to go through it again. Any comments welcome- although I do not want to ask for contributions again!
All the best,
-M
Postscript: This has been sitting in the 'edit' box for awhile since I did not post any photos. I am adding photos to the Kodak album at the bottom of the blog page, and you all can look at them when you sign in. There is also an album of the Horn's trip here- we had a wonderful time!!! We also just came back from the New York Gomez concert and that was a blast. My neighbor Chris Lynn ended up at the after party with the band and says to me "I am never going to the bathroom without taking you again!" :)

Things are finally (knock on wood) settling into place at school and hopefully in my personal life eventually soon... Carol's surgery recovery is going great and she is finally eating after not being able to for 2 mos. The verdict was ovarian cancer with tumors throughout her entire abdominal cavity. A complete hysterectomy (sp?)was performed but the cancer had metastasized to her colon and bladder. They performed a scrape of those areas but will have to try to blast it with chemo beginning her first round of it on the 24th. It has been hard seeing her like this and thinking of the not so good prognosis. Her good friend Peter has been very supportive and a good friend to me as well. Her family is pulling together like never before so let's hope for the best.
Oregon is turning yellow and orange day by day but we are enjoying sunny weather...it has been too good to be true.... Paul is really so sharp and on top of everything that happens at school--I am sure this is going to be a really special year, his class is quite filled with powerful children and a very loving dynamic bunch they are!!
Love to all, Kimie
