hey all, hiro and I had papa over for dinner tonight while mom was away at camp...(though as you can kinda see, our home interior is still very incomplete!) We prepared a simple dinner of vegetarian sushi and chilled miso soup for the occasion, then we rode bikes all the way to the station to catch the tail end of a matsuri. On hiro's 21-speed bike, papa did very well on all the hilly areas! here is one of me in my kimono made as a wedding gift for me by my good friend michiyo. (she's also planning to sew one for hiro, too!) nikko would not cooperate for the picture, so this is the best I could do.
Bamboo speakers -- Apropos of nothing, I think this is really cool: electricity-free, portable bamboo speakers for ipods and other portable music players. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/08/birdelectron_ez.php lucien
Trip to Ohio part III and hopefully final installment: Arghh. it is tough to work with the photos here! Hopefully this is the final segment on the Ohio trip. For anyone who still didn't get an update in their in-box, this is your cue to go back and look at parts I and II.... Here we still are, strolling around the gardens at Peter Schneider's: Then, off to Pete and Sue's. They were so great to have us and we had a good time. Here's Uncle Pete setting up the ice cream maker with some interested helpers: And Julie, taking photos of 'Alice Pat': We had a wonderful time. I think there were many members of the family there- Bob and Cyndi, Robin and Mike, Laurie and her kids, Steve Murdoch with his wife and son, Aunt Margie, and Lenore and her husband. I am sure I am leaving people out here. We ate burgers and salads and delicious desserts, and it was almost time for Grandpa's evening pill by the time we dropped him off to say goodbye. It was so late that we s...
Trip to Ohio part II: Well, for some reason the story that I had stored got published (part I) without notifying blog members- maybe b.c. I saved a draft? Anway, this is the part II of the Ohio trip, with final part to follow... Here is a picture from the Children's garden at the Arboretum. Ben had a fun time filling up water and watering the assorted plantings. We looked at 'lambs ears' and I told him how they got that name. I believe on the way from the Gardens, we stopped by the deli near Grandpa's church for lunch. We crossed the street and looked at the roses planted in the front of the church. We then stopped at Grandpa's friend, Cal Schroek's house. We looked at the roses, many of which were Grandpa's: We dropped Grandpa off, then did some shopping for a dinner at home. The boys went swimming with Aunt Kimie and Julie and Marie started on supper. We got ready for a big day the next day. Saturday started off very early, as we had plans to visit Peter...
