Summer in the northeast

Hi Everyone!
We've had a busy summer, and hope everyone has enjoyed theirs.
Not much time for hiking, but we made the most of what we could do. One trip we took was out to the Catskills in NY to see what hiking that 'list' might be like. Very crowded, but some beautiful trails:
Tim and the trees

We got to the top of one peak and what did Tim find, but a snake - climbing a tree for insects! One of the strangest things I've seen, although it makes sense:

The garden has been producing like crazy, and we've been eating the most delicious beans, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and other veggies. Here's Tim in the flower beds:
And next to his beans:
Here's me next to a Datura "Ballerina yellow" - running in after work to deadhead:

We realized that the deck is the best place to grow cucumbers, since the squirrels can't get to them. Here's the deck plantings, but the moonflowers have overtaken the cukes!

Tim's injury was really scary. We canceled a bunch of plans we had to go hiking, but finally, on Labor Day weekend, we decided to try some hiking in Camden, Maine, where there are some 'hills' that offered moderate hikes. Here's a picture near Rockport on the 1 mile pier that we walked out on.
And, some cool rocks from the beach!

We didn't dare try camping, but stayed at a nice motel with a view of the water. Here's Tim, scoping out the birds.
We hiked two days, and Tim did great! Here's a picture on one of the peaks, and another where he is fooling around with rocks.

Marie, happy to get back out on the trail!
Back in the city, we're enjoying the colorful flower boxes in Beacon Hill on the way to work:

Yoga is wrapping up in a few weeks, but we've had a lovely season. We have two more line dancing classes and a visit from a youth orchestra program next week. I'll be sad to see things wrap up, but it will be balanced by having a bit more time.... hope everyone's fall is off to a great start!

Lovely pictures Marie. Thanks for sharing. Glad to see I am not the only rock hound. Sometimes they just shout out for attention. Enjoy the fresh produce among all that beauty.

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
