Aunt Marie's Portland visit November 2013

Marie is safely home in Boston.  I am missing her already.  So much!

Here are some of the happy memories.  I hope Kimie and Marie will add some more - I did not have my camera out as much as I would have liked.

Kimie, Marie and I hiked up Dog Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge on a crisp, dry Sunday on November 10.   I have not been up there since having children!  A nice hike with great company.

While Marie was with us in Portland, Uncle Jon was getting acquainted with Li'l Ryden in Grants Pass.  Jon, please post some photos!

Marie took the bus to Grants Pass in the middle of the week.  Here's Ken's photo of the happy auntie with the cute baby.  (New hat knit by Aunt Julie.)

And a close up of little chubby cheeks!
The plan was for Kimie and me to take Ben and the girls down for the weekend, but on Wed night Naomi and Paul were sick.  They were well again before Friday, but Irene started throwing up Thurs night, so unfortunately, Kimie and Irene could not join.  I'm sorry we are so good at sharing our germs. Lucien and Paul stayed in Portland for Paul's final soccer tournament game.

Here's Ryden on his Mama's back.  Notice the wide open eyes.  This is a typical view.  The atypical being closed eyes, sleeping baby.  It's a full time job keeping his mom and dad completely worn out all of the time.

Here I am, doing my best imitation of a tired parent in pajamas, unkempt hair and no shower for a week.

Proud big girl cousin!

We had so much fun, and the drive is feeling shorter and shorter all the time as the kids are getting older and are turning into travel pros!  250 miles with only 2 very brief stops each way -- good job everyone!  I hope this means we'll be getting together more and more often.

Marie, post your photos too, OK?  Kimie, do you have any?

Thanks for the great pictures. I hope Jon and Marie and Kimie will post theirs. I saw a few on facebook that Jon took at Crater Lake and they were fantastic. I really would like to see them with other family pictures.

Great photos, Julie and Marie!! Thanks for sharing - everyone looks so happy and in good health. The little ones are growing up so quickly! WOW! Ryden is SO big!! Leia couldn't fit in the Ergo without her head being hidden until she was practically a year old! What a beautiful baby.

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
