Summer.Family.Anniversary

Hi Guys!

So nice to visit with most of you this summer. We had a hectic summer. First off, we celebrated the Mayor's Rose Garden Party:

Tim won runner up in the Men's hat category. My hat with a homemade paper rose did NOT win, but I was told it was a close one by the husband of one of the judges. :-)

We had a nice visit from Kimie and Irene. We had fun making cookies, visiting the Children's Museum with a neighbor and her grandson, playing in various parks, and visiting the garden. I put those photos in an album that I'll post the link to, but here's a cute one of Kimie and Irene:
Before we left for the reunion, we heard that our garden was selected for first prize in the community garden category in the Mayor's Garden Contest, a yearly contest that anyone can enter. We were sad that the award ceremony was during the reunion, but sent one of our garden neighbors to accept on our behalf. We now have 2 'Golden Trowel' awards, which is kind of fun. Here's a photo from the end of June:

We had a great road trip to Minnesota, leaving Thursday night and arriving on Saturday night. The reunion was a blast and very fun to watch the next generation getting to know their cousins, and also seeing mom get to connect with her siblings.
When we got back, the garden was overgrown. We've been trying to catch up little by little, but took this weekend to hike in NH for our 25th anniversary. The campground we stayed at was right by the edge of a lake in northern New Hampshire, complete with loons- with temps too cold for any bugs, hooray!:
We had a great hike up 'Old Speck' and the next day on our way out, took some back roads. Guess what we saw?:
Moose in the road. The fun part about the trip was that the trail for the mountain was made up of granite, quartz, and mica. I couldn't help but stop and pick up rocks. Today, on the way back, Tim stopped to fish and I found these odd rocks, all with square holes. Some of them also had embedded squares- apparently some type of mineral that forms a square crystal:

Hope everyone is enjoying the last of summer. Here is the link to the Picasa album with photos from Kimie's trip, the reunion, and our hike.
