Boston news

Hi Everyone:

It's been awhile since I took photos off my camera. I had a very nice visit with Jon, Maria, and the kids this September. It was very nice to see everyone! I didn't get photos, but I did get to go drop Maile at her ballet-tap class, visit Kai and Maile's school, go to the National Zoo, and have a really great time at Maile's birthday party. Maile dressed like a princess and Kaiea was a ninja- and it was a lot of fun!

Here are some photos from a park trip we took:

It was short, but great to catch up with everyone.

Next, Tim's parents came up to see us. We wanted to show them the fall colors of New England, and rented a cabin on a working farm in Western Massachusetts. The farm raised grass-fed cattle and grew apples for cider, as well as made maple syrup. Can you guess that we ate very well? The weather was very pretty and we enjoyed spending time together:

We had fun driving around the scenic countryside. As we were close to the border of NH and Vermont, we discovered that we were there at the same time as Vermont's Open Studios, a state-wide event that highlights artists in Vermont. We drove up to Malcolm Wright's pottery studio and were generously given a tour of both the studio, kiln, and their home. Dick and Joanie bought us some lovely pottery bowls. Finally, driving home, we stopped through to see Kathy and Myron Becker, who were participating in a multi-day music festival called The Big Squeeze. It was fun to drive up to the tents and hear people playing bluegrass and folk music everywhere.

Well, that's about it. We are all well, and I'm looking forward to seeing the OR crew next. Love to all, Marie

Thanks for the great pictures, Marie! Everyone looks great and sounds like you had a good time in DC and Vermont. You need someone to take one of you next time, kay? Have a blast in Oregon!

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
