Hi there, this is the last one, I promise! My friend Elizabeth was invited to create some pieces for a gallery show of Cake Toppers. All of the ones below are hers except for the ken, barbie cake.

After these photos you can see that I had a wonderful birthday, altho I was too preoccupied to take photos during the party. We were joined by Julie, Lucien, Paul and Ben as well as my friends
Elizabeth and Sarah; and(new friend of mine and) a long time friend of Peter, Willow and her 10 year old grandson. Gunther the great Pyrenese mix is Elizabeth and Sarah's sweet doggie! Check out the beautiful Knit hat that I received from Julie! I also got a nylon hammock from The Fukuda-Kress family and a great morning massage by a Massage Therapist that Peter arranged to come to the house ( a suprise!)

He also bought a huge shrub of Yama-buki (Kerria Japonica) because he knows I love the flowers and a super weeding tool! It was a wonderful birthday! Sarah and Elizabeth gave me a very fancy expensive bottle of Balsamic Vinegar that I would have never bought for myself along with bags full of other little treats and trinkets! We had a wonderful time and I felt so blessed to be able to celebrate with those that I love while thinking of all of you! Please see, lastly, the photo of Moko and Shelly with whom we had breakfast the morning after we returned to Portland. Peter is currently making Moko a drum to send her while I sit here typing! Thinking of all of you! xxxo kimie

Thanks for all the updates, Kimie! (btw, you can never send enough pictures!!) Looks like you had a great b-day and great trip to Upstate NY! Wow, I didn't know you and Peter moved into a house with a yard! Cool. :) (Tho I have to admit I'm a little discouraged b/c once you start planting and getting that garden going, you're not going to ever want to leave it - which probably means you might not come back to Japan to live again... :( )

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
