Marathon Day details:
Hi Guys! We have finished our 20 miler and are getting ready for April 16th. As some of you might know, we have met many people whose lives have been affected by blood cancers. This year, we are running for two people: Our next door neighbor, Christine, lost her mother Gerry Lynn about 2 years ago from lymphoma. Chris ran Boston twice, but is sitting out this year. I will have her mother's name on my singlet. Our friend Bob from the Victory Gardens lost his partner, John Alan Cates, just over a year ago from lymphoma. Tim will be wearing John's name on his singlet, and I will have it on mine, too. Bob came to share some memories at our Team run this past Saturday, which took a lot of courage, and we are proud to be running for John.

Jacques is continuing his CR, but has developed a serious reaction to the chemotherapy drug. His doctor has now stopped all chemotherapy and we are keeping our fingers crossed. Methotrexate is the drug of choice for his CNS lymphoma, so no one knows what his options will be should he relapse. We all hope for the best.

Race Day: We will be running the Boston Marathon on April 16th, 2007. We are in the 2nd wave of runners, officially starting at 10:30 a.m., although it takes some time to actually get to and cross the starting line! We will have timing devices on our shoes, and you will be able to see where we are by going to www.baa.org. The face of this site will change on race day, and you will be able to look us up by number and name:

Timothy Horn: Bib number 20936
Marie Fukuda: Bib number 20922

Although we are hoping for a sub 4 hour race, we will be proud to be running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and in the memory of these special people. We have raised, with your help, over 12,000 dollars between the two of us, and our Team collectively hopes to raise a million dollars by the end of fundraising this season. During the race, Bert will have my cell phone at (617)347-2037 and will be receiving alerts at the 10k, half marathon and 30k points of the course.

Thanks to all the family who donated, bought coffee and sent letters to their friends to help with my fundraising. Thanks to Jon for his help in setting up my fundraising, coffee order forms, and evite links, and a big big thanks to Luc for his help in donating the iPod for our fundraising party. You should have seen the looks of anticipation at the drawing!

All the best,
Marie

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
