Update: 7.1 cm's (That's one big Bean!)

(A pic of the bean's spine, head to tail)

Hey all,

We're just back from our Stage 1 ultrasound. During this exam they checked for high level chromosomal abnormalities present in Down Syndrome and like-conditions. They measured the distance behind the spine and the skin at the back of the neck as well as the length of it's nose bone (which doesn't fully develop in Down cases.)

Out little bean is in good health and developing at a normal rate. They determined the due date will be September 15th, 2007 - On Maria's Birthday! And that we're officially 13 wks and 2 days today.

Anyway.. in the process, Maria and I were witness to a great deal of bouncing around, sucking it's fingers, twisting and turning for a comfortable position. What a cutie-pie!!!!!!

I'm embedding some photos for you all to enjoy.

We have monthly check ups from this point, which will eventually become 2wk check ups. Our next scheduled ultrasound for the stage 2 diagnostics will be on April 27th. They will check digits and the baby's sex. So... keep an eye out for the next update.

Love all around,

Jon, Maria and Kaiea

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
