The Long Over Due Post from DC

Hello all,

It's been a long summer. My last post was in July... so I know it's been a while. Alot has happened in the past 3 months and I have tried to capture in photo albums. I have 3 ready to share, but I'm still in the process of up loading the other 5.

Here's a brief summary of the summer's events... starting with Marie's visit to DC. (See my previous post)

After Marie visited DC (Click here to view the album and then click "View Album") we began our home renovations (Click here to see our home renovation photos - see also my "Breaking ground in DC", for more details). The office has been completed, but we are still not fully moved in. We have been waiting for some final touch up work before fully settling in. I will update the renovation album with new picture when that happens.

In the mean time, they have completed the basement project, which consited of fully gutting the existing basement, adding a full bath, closet and washer/dryer room. I think the end result is quite nice, much more my taste than the knotty pine wood panneling and concrete that was there when we bought the place. I still have touch up painting to do and a carpet to have installed before taking more photos of it, so you will be getting an updated link to the renovation album at some point (hopefully before the end of this month).

During the build out of the home office, we hosted 40 guests for Kaiea's 2yr. birthday party… man what a day! (Click Here). The day started with opening early gifts from family, and then quickly got very busy with the food prep/cook and party setup... the guests came early and stayed late, it was a great day!

I have 5 more albums to share... but they're not quite ready yet. I will be writing a follow-up post to go into more detail but here is a bulleted list of the events following Kai's b-day.
- Trip Boston to visit with Marie & Tim, and Rebecca (Maria's sister)
- Trip to New Hampshire for a friend's wedding
- Trip to the North Shore, Oahu for Maria's younger brother's wedding
- Trip to the Big Island for vacation
- Miscellaneous Summer time in DC in and around these events

I hope this wets your appetites, and makes up some for that fact that I've been silent these past 3 months. Much love to you all, and please be on the look out for my next post.

p.s. Kimie, Marie and Ken bought Kaiea a wonderful stove top cook set, complete with pots, pans, plates, cups, tea kettle and a massive array of plastic foods. So far, I have only taken video of Kai playing chef, during one of his many cook times, but it is far too large of a file to upload/share with you all. I will make sure you all get a chance to see him cooking up a storm, by updating the b-day album with some cook time photos. (My favorite dish: Steak with whipped cream)

Love,

Jon

The Latest on Leia Lately, Leia has been giving names to all of her stuffed animals, dolls, and any character in a book we come across without a name. They are very creative for the most part... Today, she named her doll from Aunt Marie and Aunt Kimie " Baby Jesus "!! I guess she remembered the name from when I told her the story of Christmas and it made an impression on her. I just had to share that with you all. I'm trying my best not to explode into laughter each time she says it. :) These days, Leia likes to run to yochien, and run home from yochien, and "race" me on the bike. She is a fast runner, and barely runs out of breath, and so someday, I expect her to visit Marie and Tim for the Boston marathon! Today, she actually ran out of breath, telling me, "There is no more air in my tummy! (Onaka ni kuuki ga nakunacchatta!)" She learned a song in yochien where they use the expression "gozansu" as a sentence ending. These days, she adds it ...

Jiji's paintings

Hi all, We had a productive day at Shiki yesterday and had the estimate for the move to the storage, where we will make the final labeling and preparation for shipment to the US. We will be back there a few more times before the move to storage on the 16th, Friday. There are a few more items I'd like for you all to look at, but since I don't have all the data collected, I'll send them in batches. Here are a few of Jiji's paintings I'm wondering if anyone is interested in. Please let me know! Thanks!
